Our school program has 3 main parts:

The Segera School
This school has over 150 students who are too small to walk the 7 miles round trip to the nearest elementary school. Our preschool, kindergarten and first grade students are learning the basics of reading and writing, receive a meal each day, and a uniform (for most, the first new clothing they have ever owned). We need to add a second grade, because over half are still too small to walk at 6 or 7 years old.

Support for Local Schools
We have three local schools, in addition to the Segera school. We work to assist the local headmasters in areas they define as the greatest needs. This includes payment of exam fees for students who can’t afford it, tuition for secondary students, scholarships for the most promising of their students, desks, supplies, transport to sports events, and other needs.  The Headmasters recommend students for scholarship, and the most urgent needs. The Segera region is blessed with some excellent headmasters, who  care about their students and work hard to empower their students with what they need to be successful.

The Segera Scholarship Program
studentWe have 30 students who have completed or are currently in boarding schools for secondary school. Until the last two years, there was no secondary school in the Segera area, so sponsors have provided for students to go away to school and get their secondary education. Thanks to several wonderful organizations helping with the Endana Secondary School, including the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Bright Points for Children and 410 Bridge, this school is becoming a viable option for students in our area.  Currently, however, if a child is hoping to go on to college, a quality boarding school is a necessity. The cost of sending a student to a boarding school, including tuition, room and board, uniforms, books and transportation is about $720 per year.  Without individual sponsors, or several sponsors per student, this isn’t possible for many. For a gift of $60 per month, or $30 if there are two sponsors, a child’s life can be forever changed.
